1. What is Coaching?
Coaching is a special partnership with an
experienced professional mentor who is committed to your well-being,
success and happiness. In the coaching relationship we focus on
goals that will transform the quality of your work and personal
life. To accomplish this, we draw from our extensive background
in communication, motivation, business, optimal learning strategies
and spiritual growth. We use our knowledge of these disciplines
to benefit you, whether you are an entrepreneur, professional or
business owner.
2. What does
a coach do?
- Helps you set better goals
and then reach those goals
- Provides the tools, support
and structure to help you accomplish more
- Focuses you better to more
quickly produce results
- Asks you to do more than you
would have done on your own
- Brings out the best in you
- Looks past how you appear
to how you can be
3. How
do I know if I need a coach?
Coach-client synergy can be transformational.
However, if you are not yet ready to make a proactive, positive
change in your life, this is probably not the time for you to team
up with a coach.
Similarly, if you are not sure whether you need a therapist or a
coach, you should probably take the therapist. Coaching is not psychotherapy.
Coaching focuses on how rather than why -- achieving in the present
and future rather than analyzing the past. It provides strategies
for taking positive action which pay off in your life.
That said, if you feel that you could do much
better with better focus, clarity and intelligent support, then
let's talk.
4. Why
should I hire a coach if I can succeed by myself?
The greatest performers achieve their greatness
through good coaching. Sometimes this coaching comes from an inspiring
teacher or a mentor in one's profession. Or it can come from a professional
coach. Regardless, in life a clear observation is that consistent
winners tend to achieve through good coaching.
5. Is
coaching like psychotherapy?
No. I am not a physician and
am not a therapist. The coaching I offer is never psychotherapy.
However, I do have a Ph.D. in Communications and am a behavioral
scientist who has helped professionals improve their performance
for two decades. In doing such I often use tested measuring instruments
to help my clients understand and take charge of their lives more
successfully. If you need psychotherapy I urge you to work directly
with a psychotherapist before beginning coaching.
6. What
will I do with my coach?
With your coach, you will:
- design and implement a better life plan
- stay focused and motivated
- strike a successful balance between your
personal life and your business life
- take yourself and your abilities more seriously
budget your time and money more efficiently
- receive objective, insightful feedback
- do the things you should do, but usually
do not
- set and achieve goals more easily
7. How
long does the coaching relationship last?
It depends on you. There is
not specific end to coaching, but there should come a point when
you are living at the level you wish to live. Depending on the
level you wish to attain, that point will probably takes longer
than several months but less than several years.
8. So
doesn't that give you incentive to
stretch out the relationship?
Not really. It is disrespectful
to both of us to maintain a relationship that is not mutually
supportive and recognizably beneficial. I want the coaching relationship
to last as long as you are realizing true growth with patterns
of living which provide you with ongoing life-enhancing benefits.
The better job I do at this the more likely you are to recommend
me to your friends and colleagues. For me that's values-based
living and good business.
9.
Does
this mean I will achieve more of everything?
No. My philosophy is one of
growth through balance--reaching higher with the help of a solid
foundation. You may decide that having more and more is not what
truly nourishes you at the deepest levels. We will work toward
balance and then toward whatever truly nourishes you and sustains
you at optimal levels.
I can and will help you become more successful -- defined as living
exceedingly well and in balanced alignment with your core values.
It does not align with my core values to coach you toward any
less than that.
10. Are you very spiritual?
Yes. But I prefer living my
beliefs more than intellectualizing about them. There is a Zen
proverb from the Tao that states, "He who knows does not
speak and he who speaks does not know." That saying pops
into my head with annoying regularity when I hear myself talking
spirituality.
